WBS: Telling the Old, Old Story
Churches Using WBS
Growth Tool
by Alex Coloma, Baguio City, Philippines

When I first heard about World Bible School during the start of my ministry in 1986, I was not really aware of its value. In 2001 I realized the importance of this evangelistic tool through the mentoring of Salvador Cariaga who convinced me that WBS works. It can help congregations to grow.

Real proof of the value of WBS came to me when our Baguio Mission Team began using WBS in May 2002. As we continued to be involved in this exciting work, we understood that WBS had been designed to aid us in getting a substantial number of contacts for Bible studies. The principle was simple: enroll more students for a correspondence course, and you get more Bible studies scheduled. Gone was the chief problem of where and how to find truth seekers. The chief problem now is how to adequately respond to the numerous calls or text messages of people eagerly seeking us out to tell them the truth of God's Word.

We planted the Central Baguio church of Christ in May 2004 beginning with 12 core members. Soon more people began meeting with us. Nine were new members whom we had contacted and baptized. Eight of those new members were WBS students. They decided to be baptized after several follow up visits by our Baguio WBS team, composed of several of our members. We also had three other souls added to the Lord's church as we continued to reach out and to grow in numbers. "WBS really works for the church." How and where did we meet these 12 souls? Believe it or not, we did not search for them. They searched for us to teach them the truth upon their receipt of the WBS flyers that we distributed along the streets, in government offices, in business establishments, and on jeepneys and taxis! We never knew them personally, nor were they referred to us by anyone. They simply responded to the WBS flyers on which we put our cellular phone numbers. After they either called or texted us, we got their names and addresses and immediately visited them. We then set up a once-a-week Bible study, and then God brought their faith to obedience.

All this proves that WBS really works for the church. It helps find sincere prospects. The Lord gives us the chance to look for ways that we can reach out and teach people. WBS really works for the church. Through this work, we can reach out to the masses. We encourage all of our members to submit names and addresses of their families, friends, and relatives. We have grown to about 60 active Christians. WBS works wonders in our evangelistic efforts, and our team of Christians will move on to greater things through the fire of God that burns in our bones.
