What is World Bible School?
WBS is God working
through a worldwide network of Christians
to take the Gospel to truth-seekers via correspondence courses.

WBS is one of the Christian brotherhood's most proven, cost-effective means of spreading the Gospel to a lost world! God uses WBS by linking a worldwide network of Christians, missionaries and churches to teach and reach truth-seekers, bringing them into God's family. Everyday Christians of all ages-equipped with WBS correspondence courses-help teach those who want to study. Much like spiritual pen-pals, they provide the lessons to the students, encourage them, guide them to respond to the Gospel, and help put them in touch with loving Christians near them. WBS was begun in 1973. Read more about WBS' history.

What is WBS' Mission?

WBS' Mission is clear:

We believe God wants all people everywhere to hear and respond to His loving, saving message in the Bible.

We believe the Great Commission directs all Christians to share that message—the Gospel—with others, both near and far.

God uses WBS correspondence courses and Christian relationships to effectively reach truth-seekers in all corners of the earth. These Bible courses are effective as both printed, mail-based courses or in electronic, Internet-based formats.

Our commitment is this:

  1. to use Bible correspondence courses to give more and more people around the world the opportunity to accept God’s Truth for themselves, and
  2. to involve more and more Christians to help them.

What is WBS' Impact?

For about two generations WBS has had a dramatic impact on the souls of millions around the world. Students are blessed with Truth of God in the Bible. WBS Teachers are blessed with the joy of sharing their faith with others around the world. Be a Teacher

  • Each year, WBS gets Bible lessons into the hands of about one million new students.
  • WBS reaches truth-seekers in 179 countries, in 39 languages—and counting. (In a recent month, students enrolled from 141 countries!)
  • WBS Internet is growing! Providing WBS courses over the Internet reaches a new kind of truth-seeker, one who prefers to study via technology. And, the Internet also lets people in closed societies have access to Bible studies where printed material cannot easily be provided.
  • One dollar—just $1.00!—contributed to WBS lets one person begin studying the Bible. (read more about giving to WBS) Help support WBS
  • Of the students who continue their studies past the Introduction Lesson, 7% (1 out of 14) will actually go far enough to request to be baptized.
  • Ultimately, 1.3% will request to be baptized. (That is 13,000 out of one million new student names each year!)
  • Recent research (Broom, 2002) in the west African nation of Nigeria yielded the following:
    • Three-fourths of responding members of churches of Christ said they had at one time been WBS students.
    • One third of responding churches of Christ said they were started as a direct result of WBS.

Whom does WBS reach?
WBS students are “truth-seekers”—people who have chosen for themselves to study the Bible. The WBS method reaches truth-seekers in virtually every nation in the world—179 in total. The courses have been translated into 39 different languages. Many regions and peoples are highly receptive to the Gospel. WBS has had profound impact there. Other fields are more difficult—even hostile. But God blesses WBS to successfully reach truth-seekers there, too. Even in the United States, WBS adds a powerful instrument to your range of tools to reach responsive people seeking God.

What makes WBS unique?

A truly distinguishing characteristic of WBS is that it involves ordinary Christians and churches in day-to-day evangelism and world missions. WBS is not just mass-distributing printed materials. Some 20,000 WBS teachers take some time each week to fulfill the Great Commission—teaching the lost from their homes and classrooms.

But, too, WBS puts Bible lessons in the hands of almost a million new students each year. Hundreds of thousands of truth seekers study at any given time.

Literally tens of thousands request personal Bible study and to be baptized in response to God’s grace! Christians at churches all over the world get involved to make sure their needs are met. Church leaders the world over affirm that WBS is far-reaching and cost-effective at reaching lost souls. Many say it is the single most effective evangelism method in churches of Christ.
